Anyhow

Longtime Sunshine is the remarkably assured debut indie rock album from Anyhow, the latest musical outlet for Matt Giegerich, a screenwriter and USA Today bestselling mystery author by trade currently based out of Asheville, NC. Building on early adolescent favorites like Weezer and Elliot Smith, the album’s songs were culled from over 200 voice memos, some dating as far back as 2010. The result is an eclectic track list that shifts effortlessly from rock anthem hooks to uptempo bangers to lofi ballads, all united by Giegerich’s penchant for melody and producer/engineer Matt Labozza’s (Palm, Palberta) wizardry behind the board.

Lead single, “Come to My Island,” demonstrates the album’s genre-bending approach, transitioning from pop-punk to shoegaze — and back again — with ease, recalling peers like Helvetia, The Cradle, 2nd Grade and Lrrr.

Giegerich and Labozza were neighbors in Peekskill, NY artist lofts at the time of recording, and the album was forged in the crucible of Labozza’s Peekskill studio, which according to local legend was once home to a young Pee Wee Herman. Labozza contributes bass, drums and guitar on many tracks, and additional contributions from friends and family imbue the album with a collaborative energy that sets it apart from most solo projects.
